Silvia Márquez Pease

Co-founder of Story Spaces

Silvia Márquez Pease is a co-founder of Story Spaces. Pease is a strategic creative, theorist, educator, and an advocate for design’s potential to affect positive social change. She teaches design and undergraduate research-service courses in design for social change at Florida International University, where she leads the graphic design effort and formed Designischange.org, a research service course initiative, connecting students with non-profit organizations through design. Silvia is a Fellow of IDSVA, Institute of Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, and a PhD in Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Art Theory candidate. Her research is on the Re-thinking of popular mass-artifacts and their imprint on the feminine identities.

Pease is the Chief Officer and Founder at Studio1231, a strategic sustainable design firm which aims to connect people and ideas in a global community. Prior to Studio 1231, Silvia was a partner and Creative Director Carregal Pease, an international multidisciplinary design firm. She led hybrid creative projects for Guggenheim Partners in NYC, Miami and Switzerland, Pinta Art Fair in New York, and London, Publicitas, the Mc. Donald Foundation, American Express Latinoamérica, Lufthansa Cargo, Corpevents, Varta Batteries, Reader’s Digest Latinoamérica, IDGMI and the Mercedes-Benz NYC Fashion Week.

Pease’s graphics of Selecciones Reader’s Digest covers have become case studies for magazine design. Her work has been featured in Fresh Ideas in Letterhead Design, Print magazine, and various print and online publications. Throughout the years, Pease has received many awards and recognitions from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Fulbright, Max Orovitz, Miramar Cultural Center, and others. She was named “Who’s Who among businesswomen” for her contributions towards the advancement of graphic design as a professional force in Miami’s multi-cultural society. Pease served as the Chair of Education for the American Institute of Graphic Arts, strategically connecting designers, AIGA, the Wolfsonian Museum, and the Miami community, advancing the power of poster design as a tool for social and cultural change.
